Carnegie Library Community Hub Project

The Friends are a member of the community hub Project Group. The Project Group is working with Lambeth towards a mutual goal of a viable (self-sufficient) community hub that retains the library at its core, but also generates vital revenue to cover upkeep of the building. All going well, the building will be transferred from Lambeth to a new community entity, probably a charitable trust, at some future date. The Project Group continues to gather contacts with tenants and residents groups, housing associations, local interest groups and individuals who have expressed interest.

Currently under way is the important stage of an Options Appraisal by architects and other relevant professionals of the entire building. This is a no-holds-barred study of what is possible and what is practicable. The outcome of the appraisal will be a set of different Options for everyone to consider and discuss, during a period of consultation next year. The Options Appraisal Brief is on Lambeth’s website. You can access it from this page or see a copy in the Library.
